This technique involves a small, usually crescent-shaped incision on the top edge of the areola. Dr. Metzinger uses this approach in lifting the breasts and placing implants with minimum scarring. The crescent technique suits women with mild sagging but wants a subtle enhancement. According to the result to be achieved, implants are placed either above or below the muscle. At the same time, the nipple and areola will be relocated to a position that provides a more youthful appearance.
Also known as the “donut lift,” this is a good option for women with mild to moderate sagging and those with smaller to medium-sized breasts. Dr. Metzinger makes an incision around the entire circumference of the areola, through which the breast is lifted and the implant placed. This technique can also decrease the size of the areola, making it more proportionate. Scarring is minimal and usually fades into the natural edge of the areola over time.

Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water, which can be adjusted in size during surgery. They are inserted empty and then filled, allowing for smaller incisions. These implants are ideal for patients who are concerned about safety, as the body will safely absorb the saline if a rupture should occur. They are generally firmer than silicone implants and can sometimes be more noticeable under thin or minimal breast tissue.
Such implants are designed to offer the best of both worlds between saline and silicone implants. The added internal structure enhances stability and reduces rippling. Thus, they offer a more natural feel compared to that of a traditional saline implant.
Gummy bear implants, also called highly cohesive silicone gel implants, maintain their shape even when the outer shell is compromised. These implants are firmer than traditional silicone implants and are often teardrop-shaped for a more natural contour. Gummy bear implants are perfect for those who want a long-lasting, natural appearance with a minimum chance of rippling or leakage.

Procedure Explained

Initial Consultation and Testing
During the initial consultation, Dr. Metzinger examined the patient thoroughly to decide upon the most appropriate breast lift technique and implant type for the patient. He discusses their goals, describes the procedure, and gives a quotation of the cost of the surgery. Then, he takes pictures before and after surgery to compare the results.
Then, a patient should undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation to identify potential concerns. Such tests include blood work, a mammogram, and an EKG. Some medical contraindications include:

Next, our surgeon makes incisions, depending on the chosen technique, around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, or along the inframammary fold. Dr. Metzinger will lift and reshape the breast tissue, reposition the nipple and areola, and remove the extra skin. The selected implants are positioned above or below the chest muscle for the desired volume and contour.
  • Closure:
Once the adjustments have been made, the incisions are carefully closed and stitched. Surgical dressings are used to protect the area. The entire surgery usually takes about two to three hours, depending on the complexity.

Recovery After a

Immediate Recovery
Our patients spend several hours resting in a monitored environment immediately after surgery. It is an outpatient procedure and most of them can go home the same day. But they will need to make arrangements for a responsible adult to assist them. The initial discomfort is controlled with prescribed pain medication.  Dr. Metzinger can also advise wearing a supportive surgical bra to minimize discomfort. Bruising, swelling, and tightness of the chest are common but will resolve as healing continues. First Few Weeks
Dr. Metzinger recommends wearing a compression garment or sports bra constantly during the first two to three weeks after the date of surgery. It has the effect of holding up and maintaining the shape of the new breasts, as they will tend to droop naturally. They can tauten the swelling or inflammatory component of post-surgical discomfort. In an attempt to minimize complications, we firmly recommend you avoid lifting heavier-than-normal objects and straining or raising your arms higher than shoulder height for several weeks.
Follow-up appointments will be required to check on the healing and to remove any non-dissolvable sutures in about 7-10 days. Dr. Metzinger advocates for not sleeping on the stomach and keeping the incisions clean and dry. This lowers the risks of infection.
Patients should be patient because it may take several months before the ultimate result finally appears. Swelling and mild discomfort may still be present after three months, but these will gradually settle. Dr. Metzinger advises weight stability and a healthy lifestyle to maintain the outcome of this surgery.
