At Aesthetic Surgical Associates, we offer state-of-the-art procedures for combining breast lifts with implants to achieve the perfect shape and size every woman desires. All breasts tend to lose their volume and sag over the years. However, modern surgical advancements allow women to restore both lifting and fullness by coupling a breast lift with an implant for a youthful, symmetrical appearance.

Our triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Stephen E. Metzinger, has redefined the lives of many women with his best-of-class breast enhancement procedures. While precision and artistry blend together, he provides natural-looking outcomes to accentuate shape and proportion. We believe in empowering each of our patients to feel confident, supported, and on track with their aesthetic goals.

What is a
Breast Lift with Implants?

Breast lift with implants is a type of surgery that provides the advantages of both mastopexy (or breast lift) and breast augmentation. During the surgery, Dr. Metzinger removes excess skin, reshapes and lifts the breast tissue, and raises the position of the nipple and areola for a more youthful contour. Simultaneously, breast implants are placed to enhance volume and improve overall shape, creating fuller, perkier breasts.
This is a surgery that is chosen by women who, due to aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or fluctuations in weight, have resulted in a loss of volume and sagging. The lift and implantation offer both elevation and fullness of the breasts for aesthetic purposes and help rebuild their confidence.
The surgery typically involves incisions directly around the areola only, extending vertically down the front of the breast and transversely across the crease underneath. This will depend partly on the number of corrections necessary. Dr. Metzinger applies up-to-date tissue preservation methods in an effort to conserve sensation and, depending on each patient, sometimes maintain breastfeeding.

Breast Lift with Implants
Techniques

At Aesthetic Surgical Associates, we offer several methods of breast lift with implants tailored to the specific needs of the individual patient. The technique chosen will be based on the patient’s anatomy of the breast, severity of drooping, and desired result:
Crescent Breast Lift with Implants
This technique involves a small, usually crescent-shaped incision on the top edge of the areola. Dr. Metzinger uses this approach in lifting the breasts and placing implants with minimum scarring. The crescent technique suits women with mild sagging but wants a subtle enhancement. According to the result to be achieved, implants are placed either above or below the muscle. At the same time, the nipple and areola will be relocated to a position that provides a more youthful appearance.
Also known as the “donut lift,” this is a good option for women with mild to moderate sagging and those with smaller to medium-sized breasts. Dr. Metzinger makes an incision around the entire circumference of the areola, through which the breast is lifted and the implant placed. This technique can also decrease the size of the areola, making it more proportionate. Scarring is minimal and usually fades into the natural edge of the areola over time.

This versatile technique is applied for moderate sagging and thus applies to most breast shapes. Dr. Metzinger makes two incisions: one around the areola and another running vertically down to the breast crease in a “lollipop” configuration. The vertical approach allows significant reshaping and the placing of implants, offering a fuller, lifted contour without the need for a horizontal incision.
The anchor technique provides the most thorough results for patients with the most severe drooping. This mastopexy involves three incisions: one around the areola, a vertical incision down to the breast’s crease, and one horizontal along the inframammary fold. Dr. Metzinger can use this technique to elevate the breast, place an implant, and remove significant skin and tissue excess. While scarring is more extensive, it fades off significantly over time. It is minimal against the transformational results it can give.

We have many different implant options available to each breast augmentation performed. The type of implant selected depends on the patient’s goals, anatomy, and the type of look desired. Following are the major types of breast implants:

Silicone Implants

We have many different implant options available to each breast augmentation performed. The type of implant selected depends on the patient’s goals, anatomy, and the type of look desired. Following are the major types of breast implants:
Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water, which can be adjusted in size during surgery. They are inserted empty and then filled, allowing for smaller incisions. These implants are ideal for patients who are concerned about safety, as the body will safely absorb the saline if a rupture should occur. They are generally firmer than silicone implants and can sometimes be more noticeable under thin or minimal breast tissue.
Such implants are designed to offer the best of both worlds between saline and silicone implants. The added internal structure enhances stability and reduces rippling. Thus, they offer a more natural feel compared to that of a traditional saline implant.
Gummy bear implants, also called highly cohesive silicone gel implants, maintain their shape even when the outer shell is compromised. These implants are firmer than traditional silicone implants and are often teardrop-shaped for a more natural contour. Gummy bear implants are perfect for those who want a long-lasting, natural appearance with a minimum chance of rippling or leakage.

Breast Lift with Implants
Procedure Explained

Initial Consultation and Testing
During the initial consultation, Dr. Metzinger examined the patient thoroughly to decide upon the most appropriate breast lift technique and implant type for the patient. He discusses their goals, describes the procedure, and gives a quotation of the cost of the surgery. Then, he takes pictures before and after surgery to compare the results.
Then, a patient should undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation to identify potential concerns. Such tests include blood work, a mammogram, and an EKG. Some medical contraindications include:
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Fibrocystic breast disease
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Chronic or infectious diseases
  • History of multiple scars in the mammary glands
  • Active oncology
The Surgery
  • Marking and Anesthesia:
On the day of the surgery, Dr. Metzinger marks the breasts to outline the location of the incisions and where the implant will be placed. Then, our anesthesiologist provides general anesthesia so that the patient does not experience discomfort or pain.
  • Incision and Adjustment:
Next, our surgeon makes incisions, depending on the chosen technique, around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, or along the inframammary fold. Dr. Metzinger will lift and reshape the breast tissue, reposition the nipple and areola, and remove the extra skin. The selected implants are positioned above or below the chest muscle for the desired volume and contour.
  • Closure:
Once the adjustments have been made, the incisions are carefully closed and stitched. Surgical dressings are used to protect the area. The entire surgery usually takes about two to three hours, depending on the complexity.

Recovery After a
Breast Lift with Implants

Immediate Recovery
Our patients spend several hours resting in a monitored environment immediately after surgery. It is an outpatient procedure and most of them can go home the same day. But they will need to make arrangements for a responsible adult to assist them. The initial discomfort is controlled with prescribed pain medication.  Dr. Metzinger can also advise wearing a supportive surgical bra to minimize discomfort. Bruising, swelling, and tightness of the chest are common but will resolve as healing continues. First Few Weeks
Dr. Metzinger recommends wearing a compression garment or sports bra constantly during the first two to three weeks after the date of surgery. It has the effect of holding up and maintaining the shape of the new breasts, as they will tend to droop naturally. They can tauten the swelling or inflammatory component of post-surgical discomfort. In an attempt to minimize complications, we firmly recommend you avoid lifting heavier-than-normal objects and straining or raising your arms higher than shoulder height for several weeks.
Follow-up appointments will be required to check on the healing and to remove any non-dissolvable sutures in about 7-10 days. Dr. Metzinger advocates for not sleeping on the stomach and keeping the incisions clean and dry. This lowers the risks of infection.
Patients should be patient because it may take several months before the ultimate result finally appears. Swelling and mild discomfort may still be present after three months, but these will gradually settle. Dr. Metzinger advises weight stability and a healthy lifestyle to maintain the outcome of this surgery.
We also recommend follow-up visits to review the long-term results and resolve any issues that might arise. If the presented care instructions and suggestions are well followed, patients can enjoy the transformative effect of a breast lift with an implant for many years to come.

Improved Breast Shape and Fullness
Combining a breast lift with an implant enables women to restore sagging and volume loss. The procedure creates a more youthful, firmer, and symmetrical contour of the breasts, enhancing the upper portion of the breasts with increased fullness. This overall enhancement can dramatically improve the total appearance of the chest.
Many women feel a new confidence after attaining the desired shape and size of their breasts. Comfortable fitting of clothes, swimwear, and lingerie often translates into improved self-esteem and greater enjoyment of social and professional settings.
This procedure relieves drooping breasts and gives implants supportive tissue. It eliminates discomfort caused by sagging skin and tissues. Patients commonly relate the relief from skin irritation, chafing, and the physical strain associated with their under-supported breasts.
The result of a breast lift with implants may have a positive impact on sexual self-confidence since the women feel more attractive and desirable. The improved appearance of the breasts often leads to greater satisfaction in intimate settings and a better connection with one’s body.
A well-cared-for breast lift with implants can last for years. A stable weight and healthy lifestyle keep the breasts perky and full. So, over time, patients are able to enjoy their enhanced appearance.
